The steps of the trial involve opening statement by prosecutor or plaintiff, opening statement by defense, direct examination by prosecutor or plaintiff, cross examination by defense, motions, direct examination by the defense, cross examination by prosecution, closing statement by prosecution, and defense, rebuttal argument, jury instruction, and verdict (McNamara & Burns, 2018). All of these mentioned steps play an important role, still I believe that cross examination by plaintiff or prosecution is the controversial step of the steps of trial as in this particular step, questions are asked to the witnesses of defense.
